Are Alpines in our herd??!!!

Anyone that knows our herd is well aware that we are a herd of Nigerians and I have never honestly considered adding another breed to our farm. I like to tell people I had Nigerians long before they were cool, I got my first ADGA, AGS, NDGA registered goat in 2006. If you ask our gregarious goat loving daughter what her favorite goat is she will tell you without hesitation or a doubt...... ALPINES!!!! There were many influences on this, but I do give Michele Kruger a lot of credit, because at each spring show we went to, when she saw Avery she would say..... Alpines....... and it seems it stuck! While we were at our last show of the year and an Alpine needed handling of course Avery was eager to help! You can see in her face in the photo below that she was tickled pink to just be standing near her beloved type of goat! It just goes to show that you think one way and your children will show you that they have a mind of their own....... So if you see us in the future toting a token Alpine around to shows, just know it was not my choice, but a Goat loving kid cannot be denied her favorite breed!

The show started off unexpectedly with Avery's Alpine addiction being tickled and ended in the same way. We only brought four milkers and two kids. Both kids and three of the four milkers were entered in the same class, when I went over to the barn on Saturday morning I was disappointed to see how two of my two year old's had uddered, it had been pretty hot the previous day and they did not fill to their full potential. As the Nigerian show started, I was excited, but I did not have my hopes up high. To my pleasant surprise we pulled off a fantastic last show of the season, with our Jr Kids placing 1st and 3rd in both rings and Abby our jr doe kid winning Grand Champion Jr doe over a full show of beautiful older does! We also were able to win the 3 year old milker class in both rings with Trudy our 3 year old going Grand Champion and Best of Breed against a gorgeous challenger in ring 2 ! This was Trudy's first leg, as she has been the bridesmaid many times as reserve champion! Our 2 year olds performed well, Ziva won ring 1 and was 2nd in ring 2, and Kim and peaches were 2nd and 4th in the rings.

We are already looking forward to the fall and breeding season! We have some exciting AI's and a very special new addition coming to the herd! Stay tuned and happy goating!!
